Demons are the various humanoid creations of Vritra and their descendants, who were initially intended to compose the servant caste in Eden society. The Demon Army is a major component of the Nuyo-Dyavol Coalition and demons live freely in their territory on Euclid. Free Demons live outside the territory of the Coalition and prey upon humans and angels.

Biology and Appearance[]

There is extreme variation in the appearances of demons. Individuals typically have a roughly humanoid body, with varying features taken from multiple disparate non-sentient animals. Demons created by Vritra were intended for specific tasks, many being given specific attributes that would be beneficial for that purpose such as incredible strength. Others were intended to be frightening to make angels less likely to take pity on them. Both of these choices would backfire tremendously after the revolt.

Later demons inherited many different traits from their ancestors, resulting in increasingly non-human appearances. A select few, known as skinwalkers, possess a unique mutation allowing them to change their appearance between many different forms. While thought to be extinct outside Coalition territory, a number of skinwalkers secretly compose the population of Headre. They disguise themselves as humans when encountering outsiders.

Background[]

Before the War[]

Several attempted demon slave revolts had been successfully suppressed by Vritra's forces before Xeren became aware of their plight. Incensed by their role in Eden's society, the Power sent a telepathic communication to the demon slaves. He provided them detailed accounts of their previous efforts and how their kinsman had been able to take up arms against their masters. They were directed to collaborate in order to overpower the angels collectively. Xeren directed them to flee to Optimates Mountain once their overseers had been killed. There they would find both a place of refuge and an opportunity to join an army in direct opposition to Vritra.

During their war against the Sabaoth, Vritra's angel army, Xeren planned to lead an attack on the capital city of Empyrean. The demon forces were met by Vritra and the Sabaoth just outside the city's limits. Vritra demanded that Xeren fight him in single combat, which the other god agreed. Xeren killed Vritra, which lead to his execution by the Powers for killing one of their own. Half of Xeren's soul, which contained his godly power, began to orbit his planet Euclid. The reincarnation of Xeren, de-powered and mortal, was also born to human parents on this world.

The demon army was initially lead by Dasim, as Xeren's designated successor was judged too young to rule. The successor was the half-demon son of Xeren, Cicero, who would take power upon coming of age. Cicero would create a portal to Euclid and lead the demon army to his father's world.

The Great War[]

The governments of Peninsulinde and Mesto established the Nuyo-Dyavol Coalition with Cicero's forces. This restructuring lead to Dasim regaining his position as supreme commander of the demon army, while Cicero became the leader of the Coalition's State Council.

However, reception to the demon incursion was not universally positive from both humans and demons. The leaders of the early "Free Demons" movement believed that humans were inferior to demons due to their reliance on technology. They deserted the army and terrorized the lands beyond the Coalition's reach. Many human countries had refused the invitation to join the Coalition for varying reasons, chiefly disbelief at Cicero's claim of being the son of Xeren and his autocratic control over the alliance. Cicero therefore refused to help the nations of Euclid against the Free Demons unless they recanted their refusal to join his organization.

Alchemilia Corporation scientists, lead by Gabriel I and Bea Arsene, successfully created a wormhole between Euclid and Eden. They had hoped that the Sabaoth would quickly resolve the conflict between humans and demons. Instead the war persisted and many humans died as a result of the angel army's uncaring nature towards their suffering. At present, the Coalition is fighting both the Sabaoth and the Global Union, an alliance of human governments.
